Intumescent Coatings

Intumescent coatings are passive fire safety coatings developed to protect structural elements against high temperatures. These special coatings, used particularly on steel load-bearing systems, undergo a chemical reaction under the effect of heat during a fire, expanding to form a carbon-based, porous foam layer on the surface. This layer delays the heat from reaching the structural element directly, preventing the steel from reaching critical temperatures and helping to preserve its load-bearing capacity for longer. This maintains building stability and provides the necessary time for safe evacuation and intervention.

Modern intumescent coatings are produced in water-based or high-solid content formulations, offering safer solutions for the environment and human health thanks to their low VOC values. Their ability to provide high performance with thin film thicknesses is an important advantage in terms of preserving architectural aesthetics. Their ability to achieve a decorative surface and compatibility with different topcoat systems makes these products a preferred solution in both industrial and commercial projects.

Intumescent coatings can be used not only on steel structures but also on reinforced concrete elements, timber load-bearing systems and even in special applications such as ventilation ducts. On concrete surfaces, they can improve thermal insulation performance, contribute to reducing carbonation and prevent the spalling and cracking that can occur on concrete surfaces during a fire. On timber structures, they support the maintenance of structural integrity by increasing the fire resistance time of load-bearing elements.

Systems developed for today's site conditions offer advantages such as fast-drying technologies, single-coat application and high fire resistance at low thickness. Some advanced systems are supported by tracking technologies that ensure the traceability of the product's application process and performance.
